Road Map to your Future

Step One: Transition Phase

Our support program for transitioning veterans involves a thorough intake interview to gather essential information, collaborative goal setting aligned with personal and professional ambitions, meticulous review of the JST Transcript for seamless skill transfer, exploration of GI Bill benefits for educational and financial support, personalized roadmap creation outlining specific steps for a successful transition, and a continuous commitment to ongoing support for a fulfilling progression into a new chapter. To apply you will need:

- DD-214

- DD2586 VM

- Joint Service Transcript (JST)

- High School/College Transcript

- Updated Civilian Resume

- Completed Wis-MAC Application

Step Two: Education Phase

In the education phase, transitioning veterans meticulously choose and enroll in a school, complete peer learning determinations, prepare for the TEAS test, with the score influencing college eligibility. They make decisions about the learning format—online, hybrid, or campus-only—engage in discussions about clinicals, and manage the delicate balance between school, work, and transition strategies. Throughout, careful consideration is given to determining technology resource needs for a comprehensive and successful educational journey.

In this transition journey, veterans determine their new career, participate in state board preparation, complete state boards, negotiate new position evaluations, and undergo a follow-up evaluation within 3-6 months through our Heroes program.

Step Three: Employment Phase

In the employment prep phase for transitioning veterans entering the healthcare field, they strategically choose job locations, decide on full-time or part-time healthcare work, specify required benefits, and meticulously complete resumes and job applications.

Step Four: Licensure and Permanent Placement

For the last phase, transitioning veterans will establish an employment start date, determine job-specific needs such as scrubs and stethoscopes, choose a facility placement, obtain necessary facility passcodes and tags, and undergo a 3-6 month follow-up evaluation through our Heroes program.

March of 2022, Heroes for Healthcare achieved a significant milestone as Assembly Bill AB720, known as the Wisconsin Military Medics & Corpsmen (Wis-MAC) Program, was signed into law. This groundbreaking legislation provides veterans with the opportunity to work under their scope of practice while obtaining their license, allowing some veterans to acquire their license as little as 15 months after transitioning.

Candidates within 12 months post-discharge pursuing a Wisconsin license can benefit from the Wis-MAC Program, offering one-on-one support, resume building, education pathways, interview skills, study materials, financial assistance, certified testing, and job placement placement.

In job placement, we offer jobs in the fields such as LPN/RN, respiratory, therapy, radiology, respiratory, administration, and many more!
