Heroes for Healthcare supports all veterans pursuing careers in healthcare and offers an accelerated pathway for medically trained veterans through the Wis-MAC program.

The Wis-MAC (Wisconsin Military Medics and Corpsmen) program helps veterans with medical backgrounds leverage their training, skills, and experience to build healthcare careers.


wis-mac participant requirements:

medical mos

Be a medically trained veteran

under the following MOS's:

    - Army Medic

     - Navy Corpsmen

     - Air Force Medical Technician

12 months discharge

Must be within 12 months of an

honorable discharge.

Wisconsin licensure

Must peruse a Wisconsin Healthcare License 

(on-campus or online) Wisconsin nursing license is valid in other states  Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC).

step-by-step program

1. transition phase

The start of our program supports transitioning veterans through an intake interview, goal setting, JST Transcript review, GI Bill guidance, a personalized transition roadmap, and ongoing support for a successful new chapter.

- DD-214

- DD2586 VM

- Joint Service Transcript (JST)

- High School/College Transcript

- Updated Civilian Resume

- Completed Wis-MAC Application

2. education phase

In the education phase, veterans select a school from one of our many Education Partners, prepare for the TEAS test, choose a learning format, discuss clinicals, and balance school, work, and transition strategies.

3. employment phase

In the employment prep phase, transitioning veterans entering healthcare select job locations, decide between full-time or part-time work, identify needed benefits, and complete resumes and job applications.

Job Opportunities

4. Licensure & Permanent Placement

In the final phase, transitioning veterans set a start date, address job-specific needs like scrubs and stethoscopes, select a facility, obtain passcodes and tags, and complete a 3-6 month follow-up through our Wis-MAC program.
